For the last thirty years of his life, Monet repeatedly painted his private garden at Giverny. This late water lily painting lowers the gaze to the surface of the pond, where light both penetrates the water and reflects upon it. The lilies, reflections, and underwater colors intertwine, as the familiar garden gradually becomes a space of color in which one can immerse oneself.

Between the Light and Water
An ash floating frame surrounds the whole canvas with visible grain and no mat. A lavender-gray limewash wall picks up the violets of the pond, keeping the greens and the lilies bright.
